The meeting of the Vermont Parks and Recreation Board together tonight, caller. 00:00:01
Broke up, he turn up. 00:00:07
I'm here. Laughlin, Kyle here. Swinehert here. Dombrowski here. 00:00:10
This evening, Eldon. 00:00:16
Here we have Mark Weisenberger. That's supervisor, Chad Coombs, recreation Director. 00:00:18
And we are for photos with us this evening. 00:00:25
OK, Thank you. We need to approve the minutes of the May 20th, 2025 meeting. 00:00:29
Would anyone like just a little move that wakes up in minutes from the May 20th, 2025 weekend as written? 00:00:37
2nd. 00:00:44
Hi, Paterno. 00:00:48
And I do much work. 00:00:56
We don't have enough people who were at the meetings. 00:00:58
You know we don't, so we just. 00:01:05
That would remain in the record. Yeah, that will remain in the record as it's written. 00:01:07
OK. And now we have some correspondence presentations, I think Marilyn Brill. 00:01:12
You're here. Why don't you step up to the podium? I know you wanted to. 00:01:18
Make a request. 00:01:23
Thank you very much. Thank you. 00:01:25
In the city, the reason I'm here, I represent the Brownhill Historical Association. 00:01:29
So we have a Little Free Libraries. Everybody familiar with a Little Free Library. If you have children, that's a great place to 00:01:35
go. You get a book to keep these kids. 00:01:40
We need some summer. 00:01:45
We have a little free line, but I give you a little bit of history. 00:01:47
Back in 2014, we went to the Starter center in Lorain County. 00:01:50
To obtain a little Free Library. 00:01:55
And we have permission to put it at the Brownham store which is on her Rd. in Northridge. 00:01:57
Thinking people stop there to pick up milk or bread. 00:02:03
Whatever, why not pick up a book? 00:02:08
To take home to those children. 00:02:10
So, umm. 00:02:12
It was there. 00:02:14
Jim called the former owner of the store, said. 00:02:15
Somebody's not your nephew, or not your. 00:02:18
Library over, we repaired it twice. 00:02:21
Finally, the school the Brown Had Historical is also restoring the old Brownhill School on Northridge Rd. which is West of the 00:02:24
store. 00:02:29
So we have permission. 00:02:34
From the Brownhams Friendship Trustees to Mount. 00:02:36
The little Free libraries on the store, down to the school thinking. 00:02:40
Soccer people go in there to play in the soccer field. 00:02:44
Playground equipment. 00:02:48
So we did. It's registered. We left. 00:02:49
People know Lorraine County. 00:02:53
Community Center. 00:02:57
That we've moved that registered Little Free Library to the new. 00:02:58
Renovated school that is now. 00:03:02
Our responsibility. 00:03:05
We have maintained it with books. 00:03:06
So the permission from the Brownham Historical to ask. 00:03:09
You people if we could put a little Free Library at. 00:03:13
Shows a park once it's ready for that type of. 00:03:17
Entertainment, I call it, for those children. 00:03:22
Meanwhile, I'm also part of the Friends of the Library, so really rack the president of that group. 00:03:25
Said that she was on the agenda. 00:03:31
Which is my. 00:03:33
I said why would you put a library in Brown and Township? 00:03:35
Why don't you put it somewhere else in? 00:03:39
Your area. 00:03:41
Here it comes. So she said. Oh. 00:03:43
Great, you get on the agenda. So that's why I'm here. 00:03:46
But maybe you have other ideas? 00:03:50
About where? Within the city of the Brown Ham Township section of the city. 00:03:53
A little Free Library could go. 00:03:59
Meanwhile. 00:04:01
The box we have, our little box is. 00:04:03
No bigger than this podium. 00:04:06
Right, we want to know if we could build 1 to resemble. 00:04:07
The Vermilion clubhouse. 00:04:14
Speaker But there's people in our group after all the renovations we've done at that school, we've got some talent here with 00:04:16
Woodsman. 00:04:20
That can probably put a recreate. 00:04:24
Back in 2014, you'd be surprised. 00:04:27
Some of the boxes that were made for the Little Free Library. 00:04:30
Resembled a Firehouse or a church. 00:04:34
Who were also going to sponsor that library? 00:04:38
These were made by the grafted correctional. 00:04:41
7-8 so those people added that. 00:04:44
Facility where they were in prison. 00:04:47
But they're telling us to work and build these beautiful. 00:04:49
Libraries back then, and I hope they're still being maintained today. 00:04:52
We chose one that was made of the vocation of soup. 00:04:57
Which is also good. 00:05:00
So I'm asking. 00:05:02
For permission when the time is ready. 00:05:03
To put a Little Free Library, we have lots of books. 00:05:06
Both the library has books. 00:05:09
Or we have library. 00:05:12
Within our school that we could maintain that. 00:05:14
So I'm just asking for permission. 00:05:17
Or where would you like us to maintain and put it at? 00:05:19
Josie Park, I know. 00:05:23
Sherry Park is already. 00:05:25
Has one coming. Has one coming right? From what I hear from the Friends of the Library, so. 00:05:27
I don't know where you might. 00:05:34
Want to put one? 00:05:36
So this would take place at the one minute. 00:05:37
Three, Yes, Greening has one in her garage, which is one that's going. 00:05:40
Share it right? 00:05:45
We would build 1 and get it registered through the lower incoming. 00:05:47
Community Foundation. 00:05:52
So that it would be registered and at chosen and usually they put them. 00:05:53
By the playground equipment or by a bench where people can sit. 00:05:58
And take a book or take them home to. 00:06:02
Take them home, return them up you. 00:06:04
Some children don't want to part with that book that they. 00:06:06
Now read almost by themselves, so they. 00:06:09
It's hard to get. 00:06:13
Some little ones to. 00:06:14
Return a book, but it says it's never a gift. It's always, you know, free for anybody. 00:06:16
I think it's important, especially schools out now. 00:06:21
To maintain reading for these youngsters, I mean. 00:06:24
Parents don't even leave. 00:06:28
Stories to their children so. 00:06:30
Anyway, that's all I have to say. 00:06:32
I'm just here to ask permission and if you. 00:06:34
Just think about it and let us know, and it doesn't have to be a chosen park. 00:06:38
It could be anywhere within the Township. 00:06:42
Area of the city. 00:06:45
OK. I guess that's yes. 00:06:48
Which goes computing between Vermilion and brown no. 00:06:52
Yes, we're in the big city now. We were used to have a mailing address of Amherst. Oh. 00:06:55
Just people, 911 went into effect and when 911 went into effect, they said, oh, you. 00:07:00
Change your address and everybody thought we moved. 00:07:06
Yeah, but no, we just can't. 00:07:09
Official. 00:07:12
911 would have made everybody. 00:07:14
Confused about that location? So if you think the city is funny because. 00:07:16
Is in two different channels. 00:07:22
Counties and you have two different school systems it's also. 00:07:23
Confusing to a lot of people. 00:07:28
Thank you very much. Well, thank you. Thanks for all you do with that every all of your involvement. I know you're busy with not 00:07:30
just the. 00:07:34
That's I guess thank you. 00:07:40
And I'm sure we will find a place for that in the park and we'll work with Mark and. 00:07:43
Make that happen. There's a lot happening there in the park already, so. 00:07:49
Thank you. 00:07:53
OK. We have Joe Price next. 00:07:56
So. 00:07:59
Good evening. 00:08:06
Like last year, I'm asking permission to. 00:08:08
Have four more concerts in the town. 00:08:11
These concerts run before. 00:08:14
Troops that are generally. 00:08:16
Surveillance. 00:08:19
Like a plane press group. 00:08:21
I taught her for 28 years and lived here for. 00:08:24
30 something and we have met other people in the group that are had Permian ties either teaching here or living here or whatever. 00:08:26
And I don't think we get enough chances. 00:08:34
So what I'm asking for like last year, last year we had. 00:08:38
3. 00:08:41
Plan this year I have 4:00. 00:08:43
And these are all happened on Saturday nights, spaced through. 00:08:46
The end of July and through August. 00:08:50
We don't. 00:08:52
Playing a concert on the following third Thursdays. 00:08:53
So. 00:08:57
It's hard to fit it all in, but. 00:08:59
Did somehow. 00:09:01
So the the concert start at 7:00 PM. They go for. 00:09:02
1/2 maybe at most two hours. 00:09:06
The four dates are. 00:09:09
July 26th. 00:09:11
That's when the. 00:09:14
Virgin in here. 00:09:16
At Victory Park, asking for permission for their. 00:09:17
And. 00:09:20
The 8th of. 00:09:22
Excuse me, August 2nd. 00:09:23
We have a new group which is part of the Windjammers. It's called the Saxon Machines. Just the saxophones. 00:09:26
From the group that I put on the concert on the ground, so. 00:09:31
And we'll have another group come as well. 00:09:34
I'm thinking a bunch of trumpets. 00:09:36
Coming film in the concert. 00:09:38
On August. 00:09:40
Remain community concert band. 00:09:42
Will be performing with Victory Park. Excuse me, Sanchez. 00:09:45
Machine can perform a friendship partner. 00:09:49
Not as big a group. 00:09:52
And then on the August 30th. 00:09:54
Solid grass to provide land. 00:09:56
Will be a friendship also. 00:09:59
The only thing we need other permission is to make sure the electricity is turned off so we can run the amplifier. 00:10:02
Have you? 00:10:09
Coordinated with the Main Street events that happen in the parks as well. 00:10:11
I I I thought to say that. 00:10:16
Comments in my. 00:10:18
She suddenly gave me a list. I looked and I didn't see anything. 00:10:19
They're the conflicted. 00:10:23
Every list I could find it I looked at. 00:10:24
OK, I know it's a victory park. 00:10:27
On some of those days, there's the afternoon, Saturday afternoon. 00:10:30
Right, but they're done by 5. 00:10:37
I understand so and your concert begins at 7:00 so. 00:10:39
7 inch knight. 00:10:44
OK. Last year we with the three groups. 00:10:46
Oh, we had an average of 45 people coming. 00:10:48
Fearless play. 00:10:51
And again, the groups are very. 00:10:53
Happy to do that because you know they love playing for hometown folks. 00:10:55
And I see you have one rain date of August 9th. 00:10:59
You know, it's pretty impossible to schedule. 00:11:03
Wouldn't have a group of 4550 people like the concert. There's about 45 people. 00:11:06
Try again. 00:11:11
The horror to come on another night, so I must put that down. 00:11:13
Chances are, if the weather's bad, we. 00:11:17
Move. Reschedule. 00:11:19
Any other questions? 00:11:23
For discussion. 00:11:25
It is July 26th. 00:11:30
Make a motion that we accept the community use. 00:11:37
Event Connect. 00:11:41
From the Community concert series. 00:11:43
For July 26th. 00:11:45
August 2nd, Possible rain day of August 9th. 00:11:48
August 16th and August 30th. 00:11:52
We spread over 50 and friendship perks. 00:11:56
A second. 00:12:00
Turn up Yes. 00:12:03
Yes, software. 00:12:05
Yeah, Elvin. Yes, Dombrowski. Yes. Motion carried. 00:12:07
Thank you, Joe. We're happy to have you in the parks. 00:12:12
We're happy to be able to perform here. 00:12:16
Activities to the Jody so to make sure they're in schedule. 00:12:19
Sure, that would be wonderful if you would do that. 00:12:27
I can give you a copy of the she. I think she already has those. 00:12:35
She sent us the form so she should have the date. 00:12:39
Thank you very much. Thank you. 00:12:43
OK. 00:12:47
The last one that I'm aware of is a request from the Rotary. 00:12:50
To use the parks. 00:12:55
Garage for a pancake breakfast. 00:12:59
They're requesting a setup on July 11th. 00:13:02
Approximately noon until set up. 00:13:05
Is complete and then the pancake breakfast on July 12, setting up at 6:30, going until 1:00. 00:13:08
All that and then. 00:13:15
Cleared through our parks manager. 00:13:17
Martin So I think. 00:13:21
That's all gonna work, and they've done. 00:13:22
In the past. So I don't think we have any conflicts there. 00:13:24
Any questions? Any questions anybody? 00:13:30
I'll make a motion that we accept the use permit for the Rotary Club to make pancakes on July 12th. 00:13:34
So enough on July 11. 00:13:40
I'll second it. 00:13:43
Alden, yes. And Browski, yes. Paterna, yes. Lachlan, Kyle, yes. Motion carried. 00:13:46
And our last? 00:13:56
Permit request is from the US Army Corps of Engineers. They are planning a Vermillion W pier ribbon cutting. 00:13:58
For tomorrow. 00:14:05
And it will begin at 11:30, but they're requesting use of the park between 10:30 and 12:30 at Main Street Beach. 00:14:07
Any questions on that? 00:14:16
Anything to add? 00:14:19
Mr. Mayor. 00:14:20
Adapter. 00:14:23
Districts. 00:14:25
We're only there and couple of people. 00:14:29
And the greater side. 00:14:32
Mark indicated that maybe I don't know. 00:14:35
But yeah, little ribbon. 00:14:37
You can see the West pier. 00:14:40
This is a big point for you. 00:14:44
Everybody's welcome to the rhythm. Cunning. 00:14:50
You are. 00:14:52
OK. 00:14:59
OK, I'll make a motion to accept the prosecution permit for the honor Corps of Engineers or. 00:15:00
June 18th, approximately 10:30 to 12:30. 00:15:06
West, Pierre. 00:15:10
I second that. 00:15:13
Yes. 00:15:16
Paterno. Yes, yes. 00:15:17
Alvin, Yes. Motion carried. 00:15:21
And we do not have our City Council representative here tonight, so we'll move to the mayor's report. 00:15:24
Well, you just basically. 00:15:31
One thing. One thing though, we this is the. 00:15:33
Festival season. 00:15:37
7 weddings. 00:15:39
So this is what? 00:15:42
And Mark always prepared. 00:15:44
Congratulations on this crew. 00:15:52
Besides that, we had a great. 00:15:55
Tomorrow to have even the. 00:16:04
So. 00:16:09
Surprise to the weather. 00:16:12
Okay. 00:16:19
Our directors, reports Chad Coombs, recreation Director. 00:16:21
Anything you can do just have like the baseball season roughly and. 00:16:26
The football stands, they like joy levels. 00:16:30
When is the baseball season end? 00:16:33
We will start after July 4th, will start tournaments, so depending on how far they go in the tournament. 00:16:36
OK, so the regular season. 00:16:42
Done right now. 00:16:44
Oh, OK. 00:16:46
OK, And then when does football begin? 00:16:50
Oh, OK. 00:16:53
OK. Thank you. 00:16:57
Our service director, Tony Hilarious, is not here tonight, so we'll move to Mark Weisenberger, our parks. 00:16:59
Director, thank you. 00:17:06
To appreciate what the mayor's comments on the parks, but. 00:17:09
Just to give you an example. 00:17:13
We had one day when we. 00:17:16
Canada almost 15 people open. 00:17:19
To get the. 00:17:21
To look the way they look. 00:17:22
And about 10 of those 10 or 11 of those were volunteers. 00:17:25
Come in and help us out. 00:17:29
Pretty regular basis. 00:17:31
So definitely, yeah. 00:17:33
It's a huge, cheap effort. 00:17:34
That doesn't even include. 00:17:35
All the other stuff that Vermont. 00:17:37
And everybody else. 00:17:40
Just get extra help with. 00:17:42
All the stuff that needs to be done. 00:17:45
I really appreciate this. 00:17:48
And it takes a team member. 00:17:51
So now I get there, but when? 00:17:54
I think it's important to those people. 00:17:57
Get anything as well? 00:18:00
A memorial. 00:18:04
Some of the things we're working on this. 00:18:06
Just this month now a little bit of things are out of the way. 00:18:08
We're trying to get our memorial bunches that we. 00:18:12
The people have donated over the last. 00:18:16
A few months, we're getting to the point now where we have some time to get. 00:18:19
Sandstone. 00:18:23
Bases put in and the and then the. 00:18:25
The benches. 00:18:28
Mountain. 00:18:31
Several different. 00:18:32
We'll organize some of those type of things. 00:18:34
Some new pet waste wet. 00:18:36
At weigh stations. 00:18:39
Are being so. 00:18:40
And some various new signs. 00:18:42
It's we're part of our. 00:18:45
Over the last year or two, we're starting to get some of that closed. 00:18:48
Installed as well. 00:18:52
A couple other things for. 00:18:54
Kind of, I think what Tony would have normally talked about, they had the dead opening. 00:18:57
For the. 00:19:02
Precast restrooms are shared for shared park. 00:19:05
This past month. 00:19:09
And we had north. 00:19:11
Norwalk Country Industries. 00:19:14
They were the only the only better. 00:19:17
Which we kind of. 00:19:20
Because the type of build type of building that we're. 00:19:22
Specifying they're, they're the only ones in the in the. 00:19:25
This really in the whole state of Ohio that. 00:19:29
To do those type of buildings. 00:19:31
And they gave they had a bid of 77,004. 00:19:34
160 dollars. 00:19:38
Which is, which is. 00:19:39
Well within our budget of 85%. 00:19:41
We got the amount of the grant from your accounting Commission. 00:19:44
So that that's finishing up, I think there's another reading or two for Council. 00:19:48
Finish up their part of that and. 00:19:53
Then they'll they'll have they'll have a few months. 00:19:57
In producing the building. 00:20:00
And then? 00:20:03
Hopefully in the fall. 00:20:04
Get that. Get that building installed out there. 00:20:05
That shared part. 00:20:09
The other thing I want to. 00:20:12
Thank Tony for his, it's been working with this. I'm getting a. 00:20:13
The Storm. 00:20:16
Right next to the. 00:20:19
Out in front of the pool. 00:20:20
10. 00:20:23
The site of the news splash pad. 00:20:25
And. 00:20:26
We needed to tie. 00:20:28
Storm sewer for the splash pads, we were able to kind of combine the two projects. 00:20:30
And then we got our the extension that we needed to be able to tie into it, but. 00:20:35
Catch basin was in need of repair. 00:20:41
I love cooperation. 00:20:46
Let's see, amazing questions, that's all I get. 00:20:51
The only thing I wanted to ask Mark is you think it'd be possible for us to get a list of who our volunteers are? It would be nice 00:21:01
for us to be able to thank them in some way, if you could. 00:21:06
Put that together. 00:21:12
Thanks. 00:21:14
Now we are going to move on to our subcommittee reports and 1st is budget and finance. This touch base with Mark briefly, things 00:21:17
are trending as expected. We have some work over my Fund 204 should something come up. 00:21:24
That's what we don't know. 00:21:32
OK, Main Street beach and park revitalization project. 00:21:34
Well, we have a beautiful patio. 00:21:39
Thanks to Vermilion and Blooms donation and it's we have. 00:21:43
Five No 4 tables on there right now thanks to the shore thing with the umbrellas placed there. 00:21:48
That used to be on the deck back before we got rid of that. 00:21:55
Stole things to get in place. It's looking beautiful and it is busy, busy, busy. 00:22:00
So we did. 00:22:08
We still have some signs to get in. We still have a welcome sign to add to the pump house. 00:22:11
Much more to happen but making really good progress. So thanks again Mark and crew for. 00:22:18
Getting all of that together. 00:22:25
The foot. The foot washer. 00:22:27
Big river tomorrow. OK, installed. 00:22:31
Oh great. 00:22:36
OK. We have Chelsea Park revitalization and transformation, Phil. 00:22:38
Yes. 00:22:43
The exercise equipment there was a. 00:22:44
Manufacturer's error on a piece that had to get sent back. I believe Mark that is back now it's been fixed, correct? 00:22:47
Piece so we'll be getting a date set to finalize and get the. 00:22:53
Exercise equipment put in place. 00:22:58
Our playground itself has been delivered. 00:23:00
Which is awesome. 00:23:03
Umm, and I think we're trying to move today and get. 00:23:04
The layout approved by the board. We do have a few things. 00:23:08
For the committee here. 00:23:12
Look over your. 00:23:19
Umm, age 1 is just kind of like the overview of Show Z. 00:23:22
And a new area that has been. 00:23:25
Not really a. 00:23:29
We're in agreement with Ray County Veterans Services. 00:23:31
On the new location of the flagpole, which Jeff Lucas added. 00:23:34
Right there at the playground would actually be the South. 00:23:39
East, southwest corner. I'm sorry. Oh, still on the mound. The mound is extremely large. 00:23:44
I mean, if you put through the pages, the very next page shows you the dimensions of. 00:23:50
The mount itself now and why that black hole would still fit on there. 00:23:54
Compared to the use of where the playground equipment is going to go. 00:23:59
So is it? Is it? 00:24:04
No, the flight was going to be. 00:24:06
And they've agreed that that's. 00:24:12
An acceptable location, yeah. 00:24:14
That's who the donations from. 00:24:18
Yeah, right, right. 00:24:20
Another presentation last month that's good that we used to have. 00:24:21
Can you pull your paper off? 00:24:25
Third page, just another view of just where the playground equipment is going to go. 00:24:32
Or what? We're going to ask for it to go? 00:24:38
The next page is a 3D. 00:24:43
Drawing of. 00:24:46
The locations of all the equipment. 00:24:48
This is actually if your back is facing, if your back is to the water and you're looking South. 00:24:50
Is how this is going to be so the. 00:24:55
Flagpole would actually be a. 00:24:57
Back here passed the umbrella. 00:24:59
So you would still be able to see it from the lake. 00:25:02
You should be able to see it from driving down Edgewater. It would just be on the South side of Edgewater compared to the north 00:25:06
side now. 00:25:08
What was the height of that Michael 60 correct? 00:25:13
65. 00:25:17
And then the final page is a rough drawing. This is not a finalized. 00:25:20
Drawing of. 00:25:24
The flagpole and the patio to go around it. 00:25:25
It's really nice look like. 00:25:31
Mark, remember how large the flag is? This drawing shows it as a four foot by 8 foot, but it's way larger than that. 00:25:34
The flag itself. 00:25:39
Yeah, so it's yeah. So it's 60 foot flagpole is going to have a very large. 00:25:41
Exactly the same as the one. 00:25:49
And then we were working with a resident. 00:25:53
Who found it? 00:25:55
Great lighting source for the flag as well. 00:25:57
And am I right? That's a down lighting source. It's not going to be. 00:26:00
Like the lighting that's. 00:26:05
For holes larger than what we have in flags larger than what we have. 00:26:07
And that we can dial it down as well. 00:26:12
Yes. What kind of light is that LED lighting? Is it warm, cool, hot, cold? You know all those LEDs? 00:26:15
I don't have that paper on me from our. 00:26:23
The Denver system and. 00:26:28
It is. 00:26:32
Lecture. 00:26:33
That it could be. 00:26:35
The bright white of LED and also dimmed down to affect that yellowish. 00:26:37
Colored as well. 00:26:41
And what, who, how will it be able to be done? I mean, do we have to call an electrician? No, that's something that. 00:26:43
I could do I live right there. I could easily get into that. 00:26:51
Depending on the situation, what's going on, it shows you that particular day. 00:26:54
OK, that's what I want to do. You don't. 00:26:57
OK, OK. 00:27:00
So somebody locally would be able to adjust the lights based on if it's a dark night sky, would want to see, you know, the Aurora 00:27:01
or something like that, we could adjust it. 00:27:07
OK. 00:27:14
Oh that's all. I have more rental community to add anything if there's any questions. 00:27:16
I think it helps. 00:27:21
With the overall. 00:27:23
I think. 00:27:25
Cost of the park as well from the standpoint to work. 00:27:27
Going to be able to utilize some of the same sidewalks. 00:27:31
And. 00:27:34
Electricity, things like that, or the. 00:27:36
The playground. 00:27:39
And access. 00:27:40
Public Guard. 00:27:45
You kind of instead of having to go. 00:27:46
And walkways out to other areas. 00:27:49
Spread out. 00:27:52
More. More economically to do. 00:27:54
Running the light source, the power to the flagpole itself, we can. 00:27:59
Tie off another line and maybe light up the. 00:28:02
Really hard work as well. 00:28:06
Potentially. 00:28:09
But the other thing we can do too with that location is it'll be this opportunity of power to that middle shelter house and trying 00:28:11
to move. 00:28:15
For security cameras and. 00:28:19
Anything else that we might want? 00:28:23
Provide electric board. 00:28:25
It's a pretty central location and it's also. 00:28:27
Closer to the ball fields too, so. 00:28:30
Are going to be having games. They have the flag pretty close, so I think. 00:28:34
The site plan looks. 00:28:40
Pretty good. And does anybody else have any questions? 00:28:42
We'll take action on that later in the beginning, so. 00:28:47
Be able to do that. 00:28:50
Thanks for all your work with that film. Yeah, it's been a lot, I know. And the committee, we're grateful to Jeff Lucas for 00:28:54
leading that. Mark spent a whole heck of a lot of time also. 00:28:59
So we're and the committee is. 00:29:05
You know, been a very active committee down there, so thanks to everybody for making this happen. 00:29:07
Next we have recreation and school relations. 00:29:15
Is that why you're smiling so bad? 00:29:23
Vermilion Community Pool. 00:29:28
And I've been working on that. I'm gonna let Karen been really working hard. There's a lot happening. 00:29:31
We did open, you know, on time, but unfortunately rain is really knocked out a lot of the days of using the pool. 00:29:37
We have gotten swimming lessons underway and we had those all sold out, so it's been a good start to the season. 00:29:44
First day we had a couple. 00:29:52
Tears and that went away after the next day so we. 00:29:55
Made some progress with them. A little more timid group. 00:30:00
We do have a membership number. Do you need to remember is the highest we've had. She said 150 something, so that's. 00:30:03
That was what we heard the other day, yeah, she said. That was the highest number we've had so far, so that was good. Everything 00:30:12
in the pool is running well. We do have. 00:30:16
If you have some. 00:30:21
Special defense that we are planning on. 00:30:24
For members or anybody in the community and sponsorship campaign is coming along fine. You'll notice the banners of people. 00:30:27
We'll have the groups that have supported the pool with donations and they're actually sponsoring. 00:30:36
Special events that are happening there. 00:30:43
So when you have good. 00:30:46
Good start. 00:30:47
I did want to if we could right now at least. Umm. 00:30:52
Mention of sponsors. I don't know if I'm just looking in my. 00:30:59
And my here. 00:31:03
Of urgent sponsor American Legion was very generous and. 00:31:05
We're hoping that they sponsor the special event that is. 00:31:10
On Sundays. On a Sunday. 00:31:14
At the pool so that we'll actually have ice cream with toppings and paste. 00:31:17
And, umm. 00:31:21
Brand Hall. That's Brand Hall Engineering and engineering. 00:31:23
And, umm. 00:31:27
Kennedy Bliss were very generous paternal order of people. 00:31:28
Least we've been, yeah. 00:31:32
Very fortunate to have a good response to this. 00:31:35
Initial sponsorship request. 00:31:38
So we're very fortunate for community support in lots of different ways. 00:31:42
People with the Rotary had a lot of volunteers there the first night of swim lessons. 00:31:47
So we get financial support, we get volunteer support. 00:31:52
So, umm. 00:31:56
The pool is going to keep on keeping on and that's our goal. 00:31:57
And hopefully with a splash pad soon. But you know the paperwork. 00:32:01
It's still held up down in Columbus, so. 00:32:05
As soon as they just. 00:32:08
Make that approval, they're ready to go. 00:32:10
Stuff. 00:32:14
To the supervisor. 00:32:15
Once we get his approval. 00:32:18
OK, engineering to the school. 00:32:20
He signs off. 00:32:24
OK. Hopefully it's not going on vacation or something. 00:32:26
I have gotten some wisecracks from people about the mud puddle there. Where? 00:32:30
Splash pad complete designers. 00:32:37
So once the plans get stamped at the state as a plug and play. 00:32:41
The contractors they're. 00:32:49
They want to get started. 00:32:50
Because it's so much project. 00:32:52
He. He. 00:32:55
Emphasize on them. 00:32:57
Take any start any other projects. 00:32:59
Their crew. 00:33:04
They're waiting for ours or next on their list. 00:33:06
They've got landscaping stuff, they can keep their guys busy until they. 00:33:09
We get the OK to go, but. 00:33:12
Citizens, you know. 00:33:15
Paperwork, so you start running there. 00:33:18
Right, OK. 00:33:21
Any other questions about? 00:33:26
The pool. 00:33:27
Public, our Vermilion live. 00:33:30
This quarterly meeting is next month in July. 00:33:32
Request for proposals have gone out for the Shaw Park artwork. Then we're waiting. 00:33:35
To reveal those as a boy. 00:33:40
OK. Any questions? 00:33:45
Of course, the public art is on our site plan, so later on should be approved for installation at shipping. 00:33:50
Recreation department. Well. I'm. 00:34:00
In the process of recruiting a couple of people so that we can continue the work of the past committee that John Ross headed up. 00:34:03
So that we can keep moving forward with our rec department and. 00:34:14
So that's about where we are right now. We're busy working on pool and other stuff, but that's not in the back. That is on the 00:34:20
burner. 00:34:23
Rotary Park marks up here. Karen, is there anything you can add? 00:34:28
OK. 00:34:33
Jiggle ball courts. 00:34:35
Connie. 00:34:36
I did see that we tried. 00:34:45
And it was close to the phone because they had the service. 00:34:47
Is that going to be for Apple? 00:34:53
You're going to do a gravel base and then. 00:34:55
And for the near future, it'll be the. 00:34:58
Type of note. 00:35:02
So we get to the point where we get the funds to. 00:35:05
But if you look. 00:35:09
I don't know how far back you want that. 00:35:10
The whole length of the once you get to the. 00:35:12
Of the drive. 00:35:15
Mortgage starts over now. 00:35:16
From that point all the way back to Michelle Roth there via sidewalk. 00:35:18
The curve that runs the whole length of that parking level. 00:35:22
That'll tie into. 00:35:25
Sidewalk. 00:35:27
The restaurants around the perimeter of the new extended courts. 00:35:30
And of course our service would be. 00:35:34
Your wipeout is done for a couple weeks. 00:35:37
They like to give it at least a month. 00:35:41
Secure some of the oils don't come back up through the. 00:35:44
Defense company was here yesterday putting the rest of the post. 00:35:51
So that's done. The next step is. 00:35:55
Which made me get this week. 00:35:57
To get the rest of those referred to you. 00:36:00
Those will be afforded the next step. 00:36:03
And once that's all done. 00:36:05
By the time that's done. 00:36:07
I would say that that would be ready for them. 00:36:09
Guys, can I cover those? 00:36:12
Yeah, and I also sent you a text. 00:36:17
Send a text for a board stating rules. 00:36:20
It's going to be important for us to. 00:36:24
Set some kind of parameter around. 00:36:26
People, since, you know, two quarters. 00:36:30
So I mean that was just an example anyway we want to. 00:36:31
But I do think more is important. 00:36:36
So we keep coming around over there. 00:36:38
We're not thinking we're gonna. 00:36:41
Schedule people for right. 00:36:43
But people play. Maybe use the past system to talk about that. 00:36:48
And just get it started. 00:36:54
Just let the public use it. 00:36:59
And you are pickleball players, so we're going to defer to your recommendation. 00:37:05
Thank goodness. So as far as doing a sign? 00:37:11
What do we need to do do that or how do we go out? 00:37:14
As far as? 00:37:20
Because I thought we wanted to say and then. 00:37:26
And I can get it to a couple of. 00:37:28
Does the law director have to approve anything with that? 00:37:30
Yeah. 00:37:34
Recommendations on banks I will now try to experience outside. 00:37:37
And the. 00:37:51
Sign that go there without front. 00:37:52
Exciting. 00:38:02
A lot happening in Vermilion Park. 00:38:04
Anybody have any questions about pickleball? 00:38:08
OK, we'll move on. Open to the audience. 00:38:12
Participation with anybody who would like to step up to the podium and. 00:38:15
Give us OK, Come on up. 00:38:21
Hi, I'm Helen Taft. 00:38:32
And I. 00:38:34
I'm so sorry about this flag debacle at Jonesy Park. 00:38:36
It's just a little bit of wind out of the sail. 00:38:39
We appreciate having a fight down there. 00:38:42
But I'm not sure where you're putting. 00:38:47
And he said I can't visualize. Do you know where though? 00:38:49
Where the little shelter is in the middle, kind of the front middle of the park that. 00:38:52
The one in the center. 00:38:59
It's going to be pretty close to that. 00:39:01
So it's going to be on the ground with the flavor. 00:39:08
At least it'll be drier there. 00:39:12
Right. 00:39:14
So we have to have special engineering. 00:39:15
One second. 00:39:22
Special Engineering. 00:39:25
Everything is anchored. 00:39:32
Well over about 8 foot people be digging. 00:39:33
In order to place the concrete base. 00:39:36
And then another concern I have. 00:39:47
With the flag being this large. 00:39:49
And the wind. 00:39:54
That we get. 00:39:56
At one time. 00:39:57
The group of flags for liberty. 00:39:59
They used to put flags up. 00:40:03
On our Ferguson. 00:40:06
They don't do that anymore because they said it's the wind is just too bad. 00:40:07
So that's another concern I have with this giant flag. 00:40:12
You know, we're already baking cakes for a playground. 00:40:16
How do I replace these flags all the time? 00:40:20
We discussed as a committee. 00:40:23
That still will help organize that when the winds above a certain wind, it will. 00:40:26
You know people will and the Lorraine County Veterans Commission has. 00:40:32
They are donating multiple flags so Lorraine County Veterans Commission has has. 00:40:38
Promised replacement flags anytime we need them. 00:40:44
Yes, they are. Well, thank you. 00:40:50
We know high winds coming. 00:40:55
Hey text. 00:41:00
And I do appreciate, you know, you came here before talking about, you know, the night sky. And we also have the same concerns 00:41:06
that you're voicing as well. And hopefully we're addressing as best as we can. 00:41:12
To make the park really enjoyable for everybody, I'm very happy that. 00:41:19
Some of the folks that were so unhappy with the location of the flag. 00:41:24
And lighting they. 00:41:30
I I don't think anyone meant any disrespect as far as downward lighting. So I think that's just a plus for the environment and 00:41:32
everybody. So thanks a lot. Thank you. Thank you. 00:41:38
We appreciate your input. 00:41:44
Anybody else? 00:41:48
OK. Then we have new business. 00:41:52
And I think the only new business we have is reviewing the. 00:41:57
Site plan for the park and we would need to. 00:42:01
Have a motion to accept the plan as drawn, which includes. 00:42:05
Public art. The flagpole, the playground equipment, The location of. 00:42:10
At this point now the same location of the. 00:42:15
But that's really what's in this phase right now anyway. I guess we don't really aren't going to really move the. 00:42:19
The courts or anything at this point? 00:42:25
So that's a different faith. So basically we're right now to be the public arts, the flagpole and. 00:42:28
Plate on equipment. 00:42:35
OK, as presented on the site plan. 00:42:37
And we don't really have. We're not. 00:42:40
Approving right now the Plaza around the flagpole at this time, that's just, that's just a rendering of what could be. 00:42:43
No, OK that it's going to be. 00:42:50
With on the same mound with the. 00:42:53
Playground, but it's also going to be its own identity as well. It's not. 00:42:57
It will blend in, but it will be its own separate area. 00:43:00
And the public art is on the north and West corner of that mound. 00:43:04
Correct. OK, just so we can understand. 00:43:09
Unfortunately, it's not showing here. It would be it would be right from here. 00:43:12
And then the flexible behind, yeah. 00:43:16
OK, the. 00:43:20
Anyone have any questions? 00:43:22
I'll make a motion that we accept the site plan as submitted today to include the light pole. 00:43:25
Equipment. 00:43:30
Public art location. 00:43:31
With other elements to be added later. 00:43:34
Yes, Paterno. Yes, Lachlan. 00:43:41
Dombrowski, yes. Alvin, yes. Fine heart, yes. 00:43:45
Any other business? 00:43:51
OK. Then our next meeting will be, I just want to make sure everyone is going to be here and we're scheduled for July 15th at 00:43:54
6:00. 00:43:59
I know, Connie, you're going to be out of town. I know Liz is going to be out of town. I want to make sure we have a quorum. 00:44:03
Before we. 00:44:10
Schedule that meeting. 00:44:12
William, OK, I'll be here. So OK, that will be July 15th, 6:00 here at the Vermilion Municipal Court Complex. 00:44:14
Thank you everybody. 00:44:23

scroll up
